What Is Oral Conscious Sedation?

Oral conscious sedation is taken in pill or liquid form about an hour or two before your appointment. This sedative will make you feel less anxious and a bit groggy or sleepy. Many patients even fall asleep during treatment and after your appointment, you may feel a bit disoriented. The effects of oral conscious sedation usually last 4-6 hours, so you cannot drive yourself home or go back to work after being sedated. You’ll need to make travel arrangements or bring someone with you who can drive you home.

What Are the Benefits of Sedation Dentistry?

The biggest benefit of sedation dentistry is that it relieves your anxiety, fear, and nervousness. Even if you have dental anxiety, you can still get the care you need at SmileSpot. Sedation dentistry also makes it easier for you to stay still for a long period of time in the dentist’s chair, and it ensures that you have a pain-free experience. Sedation also helps with the fear of needles or strong gag reflexes, which may make it difficult for Dr. Pham to work on your rear teeth.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

As long as you are healthy, you are likely a good candidate for sedation dentistry. However, to determine if you’re a good candidate, Dr. Pham will need to discuss your medical history, drug allergies, and any history of drug abuse that you may have had in the past. This is done to ensure your safety and that you will not have any adverse reaction.

"I want to empower patients by providing compassionate, quality dental care."
